In a statement issued by the Malta’s Gaming Authority, gaming in Malta has contributed to more than €550m to the Maltese economy between January 2017 and June 2017. This represents a 12% of its total value, an increase of 2% when compared with the same period in 2016.
The gaming segment in Malta now employs more than 9,000 full-time employees, an increase of 2,600 than what the Authority had projected.
The MGA also highlighted a 6% increase of licensed companies registered by June 30th this year when compared to the same period of 2016. Additionally, in the same period, tax revenue was registered at €28.6m which represents a 5.5% indirect tax intake.
The Authority expects the Maltese market to keep growing at a robust rate during the last months of 2017 and all throughout 2018 while it will continue to pursue regulatory framework improvements which are aimed to “streamline, consolidate and future-proof” the sectors.
